The Nalanda Institute for Contemplative Science is an organization that offers learning programs and counseling services focused on contemplative philosophy and practice. In addition to these clinical offerings the faculty also conducts research studying the beneficial effects of meditation on healing in conjunction with the Center for Integrative Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. I joined the faculty in 2008 and have enjoyed being a part of this very talented community of practitioners and researchers.
This non-profit organization was founded by Robert Thurman, Richard Gere and Philip Glass upon the request of His Holiness The Dalai Lama. The organizational mission is focused on the preservation of the Tibetan culture, and there are Tibet Houses in major cities all over the world. The Tibet House in New York City offers a wide variety of learning programs including excellent introductory courses on how to meditate, in addition to art exhibitions.
